The Complete Guide to Etsy Fees in 2026: What Sellers Actually Pay
If you sell on Etsy, you've probably noticed that your deposit is always less than your order total. That's because Etsy deducts multiple fees before the money hits your account. In 2026, understanding exactly what Etsy takes is more important than ever — and most sellers can't tell you the exact number off the top of their head.
This guide breaks down every fee, what's changed in recent updates, and how to calculate your real profit.
Every Fee Explained (With Examples)
Listing fee: $0.20 per listing
When you list an item, Etsy charges $0.20. That listing auto-renews every four months, or when the item sells. If you have multi-quantity listings (e.g., you're selling 10 of the same mug), you're charged $0.20 per quantity sold when a buyer purchases more than one. So if someone buys 3 mugs from one listing, you pay $0.60 in listing fees for that order.
Transaction fee: 6.5%
Etsy takes 6.5% of the total order amount — that's the item price plus whatever the buyer paid for shipping (and gift wrap if applicable). This is applied in your listing currency. So if your order total is $35 ($30 item + $5 shipping), the transaction fee is $2.28.
Payment processing fee: varies by country
This is the cost of processing the payment (card, etc.). In the United States, it's 3% + $0.25 per transaction. So on that $35 order, you'd pay $1.05 + $0.25 = $1.30 in payment processing. Other countries have different rates (e.g., UK: 4% + £0.20; many EU countries: 4% + €0.30). This fee applies to the full order total including shipping and any tax collected.
Offsite ads fee: 12% or 15% (when it applies)
If a sale comes from an Etsy offsite ad (Google, Facebook, etc.), Etsy charges an additional fee:
- Shops under $10,000 in annual sales: 15% of the order (optional to participate in offsite ads in some cases, but if the sale is attributed to an ad, the fee applies).
- Shops $10,000 and over: 12% of the order (mandatory participation).
This fee is capped at $100 per order. So on a $500 order from an offsite ad, you'd pay $100, not 12% or 15% of $500. Offsite ads only charge when the sale is actually attributed to a click from an ad — not on every sale.
Regulatory operating fee
In some countries, Etsy passes through a small regulatory fee. In the US it's currently 0%. Always check Etsy's official fee page for your country.
What Changed in Recent Updates
Etsy occasionally adjusts fee structures. In recent years we've seen:
- Transaction fee set at 6.5% (unchanged in 2026).
- Listing fee at $0.20 with multi-quantity fees applied per unit sold.
- Payment processing rates by country updated periodically — US remains 3% + $0.25.
- Offsite ads tiers (12% / 15%) and the $100 cap have been in place; always confirm on Etsy's help site.

Free Shipping: The Real Calculation
Etsy encourages free shipping. If you offer it, the buyer pays $0 for shipping — so your revenue is just the item price. But you still pay to ship. So:
- Revenue = item price only (e.g. $28).
- Your costs = materials + labor + actual shipping cost you pay (e.g. $4.50).
- Etsy fees = listing + 6.5% of $28 + payment processing on $28.
So your "shipping" cost comes straight out of your margin. That's why a free-shipping calculator is essential: you need to know if you can afford to absorb shipping before you turn it on.
Offsite Ads Explained
Offsite ads are Etsy's way of promoting your listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, and similar. You don't pay per click — you pay a percentage of the sale when that sale is attributed to an ad (e.g. someone clicked an Etsy ad, then bought within a set window).
- Under $10k/year: Often you can opt out of some offsite ad programs, but if you're in and a sale is attributed, it's 15%.
- $10k+/year: Participation is mandatory at 12% for attributed sales.
The fee is on the full order total (item + shipping). So a $40 order from an offsite ad at 12% = $4.80 extra fee. Many sellers are surprised by this line item; our calculator shows you the impact on every product.
Fee Summary: Example on a $30 Item
Assume: $30 item, $5 shipping charged to buyer, US seller, one item sold, no offsite ad.
| Fee type | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 × 1 | $0.20 |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% × $35 | $2.28 |
| Payment processing | 3% × $35 + $0.25 | $1.30 |
| Total Etsy fees | $3.78 | |
| Revenue | $35.00 |
So on a $35 order you keep $35 − $3.78 = $31.22 before your own costs (materials, labor, shipping if you paid it, etc.). If your product + shipping cost you $18, your profit is $13.22.
